George STRATOPOULOS: Overtaxation of labor, this great plague

George STRATOPOULOS: Overtaxation of labor, this great plague

The problem in Greece is not with professionals, it is with employees: To increase an employee's salary from €2.000 to €2.500, the employer has to spend €1.500! And such a salary may be a luxury, but otherwise you don't keep the best people. You have a brain drain
With the unification of insurance rules (Katrougalos law), a problem of the Greek economy emerged: how counterproductive the burden of labor with high insurance contributions is. It is an old problem but it has now been discussed more intensely, because the "favorite" professions of the system (lawyers, engineers and doctors) were asked to pay excessive contributions.
Employees, on the other hand, have been paying excessive contributions for years, and this constitutes a major problem for the Greek economy, which we had the luxury of ignoring during the era of prosperity, but not now.
We therefore attempt to answer the questions:

• How much burden does work suffer from taxes & contributions?
• How "injustice" are freelancers?
• Do the same rules apply to everyone in the insurance system?
• Is the way we tax labor socially fair and progressive?
• What is the biggest problem created by the Katrougalos reform?
• Is the middle class overtaxed?
• How is brain drain related to taxation?
• What was happening before the crisis? How and to what extent have the reforms of recent years affected the situation?
• Is overtaxation of labor a Greek peculiarity?
