The "alloioi" are short stories, through which approaches to paradox are attempted. To this end and for a more thorough philosophical approach, the author benefits from literature as an instrument for conveying ideas, which can and does surpass scientific language, which has difficulty exhausting the ways of expression beyond the classified reality. These short stories reveal the labyrinthine puzzles of the soul of individuals, who try to communicate in today's world and who, for the most part, are unable to perceive the parabolic messages and paradoxical events, with their usually misguided interpretations. Man and not humanity, individuals and not man are interpretations, which may be the subject of paradox writers. For example, Paradoxical is also a social analysis, which has the informational advantage but does not lead to the exit from the social labyrinth. In the book, the reader will count paradoxes, such as pleasure and happiness as emotions of multiple choice, are beliefs that do not obey rules of general acceptance. Or that, while we perceive dreams with the senses, which we trust to distinguish reality from illusion, we are ultimately forced to withdraw our trust in unreliable senses. Or free choice in a society of the free circulation of ideas, where the "free" choice is directed. Or the paradox of nihilism, where the absence of meaning seems to be a kind of meaning. All these contrary to the accepted opinion, the author accepts that they are not an error but an everyday social practice.

Professor Antonis Liakopoulos of the University of Thessaly, born and raised in Macedonia, graduated in Civil Engineering (summa cum laude) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 1977. Holder of an MS in Engineering Science, University of Florida, 1979 and a Doctorate (Ph.D) in Engineering Mechanics, University of Florida, 1982, he left his position as a university professor in the USA to help upgrade university education and research at the University of Thessaly. He is a charismatic and highly capable person, modest, kind, strictly demanding, absolutely fair and a tireless worker from morning to night. He stands out for the courage of his opinion, the prestige of his position, his integrity, seriousness, acumen, and erudition. He was also distinguished as an author of articles, texts, studies, etc. and proved to be a prolific writer. Understanding the flow under pressure in closed pipes is essential for the successful design of complex networks. Historically, the design of water supply networks was the first field of great technological interest in the application of closed pipe hydraulics. Today, in addition to the design of water supply and irrigation networks, the design of oil and natural gas transmission networks is based on the same principles. In his book, the professor studies flows, which, with a very good approximation, are considered permanent and incompressible (ρ = sta.). The author's first goal is to develop the methodology for calculating mechanical energy losses during the transport of fluids through closed pipes. Thus, all flow problems in closed pipes that are studied approximately in the course of Fluid Mechanics, in the context of the theory of ideal fluids, can be re-examined taking into account the internal friction of the fluid. The ultimate goal of Professor Antonis Liakopoulos is to provide engineers with the tools for the design and analysis of complex pipeline networks (e.g. water supply networks, industrial hydraulic installations, etc.). The first part of the book studies network elements in order of increasing complexity: flow in straight pipes of constant cross-section (chapter III), calculation of local losses (chapter IV), and design of hydraulic systems containing tanks (chapter V). The second part of the book includes an introduction to “Hydrodynamic Machines:” and discusses issues of pump and turbine operation in pipeline networks (chapters VI and VII respectively). The high quality and wide acceptance of the book contributed to the second edition of the book in less than a year. The 2nd edition incorporates improvements and extensive additions mainly to the material on hydrodynamic machines as well as an extensive glossary of English terms.

Erdogan's Islamic Turkey remains a revisionist force and with a vision of the old Ottoman territory, it dynamically and openly claims parts of Greek territory in Thrace and the Aegean, while it is planning the hostage-taking of Cyprus. Despite its multiple internal and external problems, Turkey constitutes a particularly significant threat to our country, which should be treated with due seriousness.

Balkans Fragile balances.

The Balkan states bear the burden of a historically turbulent past and within them there are national, racial and religious minorities, which so far contribute to instability, instead of being bridges of good neighborliness. Among the Balkan peoples there are "open" conflict issues such as revisionism, territorial claims, irredentism and grandiose idealism, which are reinforced by foreign centers and updated by current demographic changes. Any implementation of even part of these would signal border changes with unpredictable consequences. The collapse of the USSR caused a power vacuum in the Balkans and the dissolution of Yugoslavia, while creating new dynamics in the competition between the USA and Russia in the region. The consequence of these developments is that to this day there exist "fragile balances" and ferments, which are evolving into a race, on the one hand for the integration of the Balkan states into the Euro-Atlantic institutions and on the other hand for Russia to maintain the greatest possible influence in an area in which it has always had strong foundations (historical, racial, cultural, religious). This conflict created artificial, precarious and questionable states, such as Bosnia & Herzegovina and Skopje, as well as unstable political formations, such as Kosovo, which are potential foci of a general conflagration in the region.

The report, therefore, from the implementation of reforms, particularly in the Balkans, until the end of the 1990s was rather poor, as the region was experiencing a multitude of significant problems and where the average citizen faced the present and the future with uncertainty and insecurity and felt strong dissatisfaction with the "practical benefits" of the political and economic changes introduced in these countries after the end of 1989.

Western-derived institutions had been introduced in all countries, but with “mixed results.” Observers in the region referred to “weak states” that had difficulty performing basic functions, such as combating widespread tax evasion, crime, and corruption. The “anti-state bias” of neoliberalism was largely seen as responsible for undermining the role of the state in the Balkan countries undergoing reform, leading to the formation of “weak states,” with particularly negative effects on the economies of these countries and, more broadly, on society as a whole.

All these open issues also underlined the fragile nature of the stability that prevailed in the post-communist Balkan region. Those forces in local societies that fought for effective change, an informal coalition that included reformist politicians, intellectuals, businessmen and a small middle class that wished to see a real rule of law and a productive economy that would be able to attract foreign investment, did not seem capable of fighting the problems they faced on their own.
